Abstract: ll Sud Africa, era considerato un paese "alla fine del mondo", nel dopo guerra. Tuttavia, le opportunità di lavoro offerte allettava persone con mire lungimiranti. Franco, un fittabile della campagna lodigiana, fu tra questi: venne a sapere della possibilità di produrre formaggi con latte scremato, scartato dai produttori sudafricani. Nel 1949, diede avvio al suo progetto di trasferirsi in Sud Africa, però, non tutto si realizzò secondo i suoi piani. L'attesa dei permessi di soggiorno fu lunga.
