Abstract: Macbeth e Banquo, generali di Duncan, re di Scozia, incontrano tre streghe che salutano Macbeth come futuro signore di Cawdor e poi re, Banquo come progenitore di re. Lady Macbeth spinge il marito ad uccidere Duncan giunto nel loro castello, mentre i figli del re riescono a fuggire. Nominato re, Macbeth elimina Banquo, dalla cui ombra sarà però perseguitato. Interroga poi le streghe che gli profetizzano che non sarà mai vinto da "nato da donna" e che regnerà finché la foresta di Birnam non si muoverà. Malcolm e Macduff muovono contro Macbeth che fa ucccidere la moglie e i figli di Macduff. Lady Macbeth impazzisce e si uccide, il marito è ucciso da Macduff mentre l'esercito avanza, coperto da rami e fronde.
