Abstract: Quando George Bush lascerà la Casa Bianca all'inizio del 2009, gli Stati Uniti torneranno forse alla normalità? Il prossimo presidente potrà governare alla luce di una nuova visione, in grado di far riassumere agli Usa un ruolo positivo nello sviluppo del pianeta? Per Susan George questo non potrà assolutamente succedere, o almeno sarà un percorso difficile e pieno di ostacoli. Da ormai più di trent'anni, infatti, la destra americana è protagonista di una lunga marcia che le ha consentito di conquistare tutte le principali casematte ideologiche del paese: una vera e propria guerra culturale che ha inciso in profondità sui contenuti e le forme del dibattito politico americano. Alla base della sua strategia le cosiddette quattro 'M': money, media, marketing e management, a cui bisognerebbe aggiungere però il senso di missione che ha ispirato ogni atto della politica estera. Il risultato è un'alleanza eterogenea ma non per questo meno formidabile, che comprende fondazioni private, lobby, think-thank specializzati in ogni genere di questioni, un vasto arcipelago di pubblicazioni, tv via cavo religiose, avvocati, organizzazioni politiche con un'immediata capacità di mobilitazione. Chiunque sia, il prossimo presidente degli Stati Uniti non potrà fare a meno di confrontarsi con questa realtà, in cui poco o nulla è rimasto dei valori liberai che avevano ispirato l'epoca dell'affirmative action negli anni sessanta.

Abstract: Il 23 settembre 2009 esce il primo numero del Fatto Quotidiano, un giornale che si caratterizza subito per la sua libertà e indipendenza dai poteri forti e deboli, dai partiti vecchi e nuovi, oltre che per la sua intransigente ricerca della verità e della giustizia. È una scommessa nella quale ha creduto forse più di tutti - insieme al direttore Antonio Padellaro - Marco Travaglio, uno dei fondatori e soprattutto uno degli editorialisti di punta. Come scrive nella prefazione Barbara Spinelli, Colti sul Fatto narra un pezzo di questa storia italiana, che appunto è storia criminale e noir essendo tempestata di leggi ad personam, di giornali e giornalisti che non fanno il loro lavoro cui sono chiamati, della privatizzazione del nobile e rischioso compito che è la politica. Il filo conduttore che lega i testi è il rispetto dei fatti, la lotta contro le verità (e le falsità) ridotte a opinioni (...). Grazie a Travaglio, siamo in grado di percepire ancor meglio e di temere quella che Hannah Arendt chiamava defattualizzazione della realtà.

Abstract: Noi non viviamo in un mondo compiuto, del quale non avremmo che da celebrare la perfezione. L'idea stessa di democrazia è sempre incompiuta, sempre da conquistare. Non dovrebbero dimenticarlo gli ideologi del mondo contemporaneo che, di volta in volta, soffrono di eccessivo ottimismo o di eccessivo pessimismo, in ogni caso di troppa arroganza.
