Abstract: "Lo Stato in guerra ritiene per sé lecite ingiustizie e violenze che disonorerebbero il singolo privato".  Gli orrori della Prima guerra mondiale gettano l'Europa – che a lungo si era pensata civile – in una delusione profonda. Freud reagisce indicando due illusioni da smentire: che gli Stati, custodi all'interno delle norme morali, usino la stessa moralità all'esterno; e che il livello etico dei membri delle comunità più avanzate implichi che essi, all'occorrenza, non cederanno alla brutalità e alla violenza.

Abstract: Insieme al Mistico e al Femminile, il tema dell'Occulto è uno dei nodi enigmatici dell'eredità freudiana. Freud mantenne viva per anni la curiosità verso la trasmissione di pensiero, fin da quando, nel 1910, dimostrò magistralmente la capacità degli indovini di "leggere" il pensiero inconscio del consultante per offrire previsioni convincenti. Grazie alle sue coraggiose ricerche fu possibile rivelare in seguito la connessione fra trasmissione di pensiero e un nucleo fondante e perturbante della psiche, oltre che con il transfert stesso.
